Event Recap: Wild About Reading! Palmer Elementary Family Literacy Night
One of our favorite events we've done so far is Family Reading Night at Palmer Elementary! Of all the events we do, some of our favorites are school visits where we can connect with our primary readers--kids! Family Reading Nights are especially fun because we can reach kids AND parents with our message!
At the beginning of April, Palmer Elementary on the West Side of Chicago hosted us for their Wild About Reading Night! I gave an author presentation onstage for kids and their parents where I talked to them about the writing process, the publication process, the mission behind Furever Home Friends, and the importance of reading and writing!
Then, I took pictures with the winners of Palmer's Young Authors Contest. It was so cool to meet young authors--these were kids in 1st through 8th grade--who were creating books of all genres, from biographies to comic books to picture books.
Then, afterward, I had a table to sign books. It was the most exciting thing in the world when I came out of the auditorium, and there was already a group of little girls waiting to have me sign Princess Allee for them!
